Stony Peaks

Biomes

Stony Peaks — biome.

Obtaining

Natural generation

Stony peaks are high, warm mountain summits made from exposed stone with bands of calcite and pockets of gravel. They are uncommon because they require a high peak in a moderately warm continental region. Erosion and terrain noise can produce a lone summit, a ring around a valley, or a rugged wall reaching close to the world height limit. They avoid mangrove swamps and windswept savannas; near oceans the terrain can end in massive cliffs, while rivers may become deep fjords. Deep dark terrain is guaranteed below the peaks, with dripstone and occasional lush caves deeper down.

Resources and travel

The bare slopes expose building stone and several ores without a thick soil layer. Emerald ore and infested stone are especially associated with the mountain-peak generation profile. Cliffs can cut off nearby terrain, while river valleys may become deep fjords or remain elevated, so a safe route often follows the lower valley edge.

Sounds

The biome selects the stony-peaks music entry while the player is in the biome. Ambient cave, wind, and hostile-mob sounds remain shared with the overworld systems.

Climate and environment

Stony peaks use the common cave and monster spawn profile rather than adding a passive creature. The profile includes bats and glow squids underground, then spiders, zombies, zombie villagers, skeletons, creepers, slimes, endermen, and witches in the monster group. Goats are associated with neighbouring peak variants instead of this regular stony profile.

Data values

The biome identifier is `minecraft:stony_peaks`. The Java source registers the profile with the default overworld ore set, soft underground disks, extra emeralds, infested stone, and a dedicated stony-peaks music event.

History

Stony peaks replaced the older mountain-peak profile when the modern terrain generation arrived. Later world-generation updates refined the peak shapes, exposed more ore and calcite, and connected the biome to the current deep-dark and cave distribution.

1.21Trial-era world generation keeps the biome in the modern overworld profile

Trivia

The biome has no passive creature pool of its own, but its exposed stone and unusual height make it a useful place to spot ore and survey the surrounding terrain.
