Diamond Ore
Diamond Ore — block.
Obtaining
Diamond ore requires an iron-tier pickaxe or better for its normal drop. A weaker tool can break the block without producing the ore, while Silk Touch changes the result to the original diamond ore block. Without Silk Touch, the loot table produces diamonds and applies the ore-drops Fortune formula; explosions use the normal explosion-decay rule.
The block also drops experience when mined normally because it is a `DropExperienceBlock`. The source defines a uniform experience range of 3–7 points before other game rules are applied.

Use an iron, diamond, or netherite pickaxe to collect the ore. The ordinary block has hardness 3 and blast resistance 3; the deepslate counterpart keeps the same drop logic but uses hardness 4.5, deepslate sound and map color. Expose the surrounding stone first when mining a vein, then collect the drops after checking for nearby lava or a cave opening.

Natural generation
Diamond ore is an underground Overworld ore that replaces stone in the regular stone range and becomes deepslate diamond ore in deepslate layers. The generator uses several placements: small clusters are common, medium clusters are less frequent, large clusters use a rarity filter, and buried clusters are placed separately. Each configured feature can discard part of a cluster when it would be exposed to air, so an exposed cave wall is not a complete picture of every generated vein.
The source snapshot places the small feature seven times in a square per chunk, the medium feature twice, the buried feature four times, and the large feature behind a one-in-nine rarity filter. The regular placements use a trapezoid height range relative to the bottom of the world; the medium placement is restricted to the deeper range from Y -64 through Y -4.
| Small placement | Count 7; cluster size 4 |
|---|---|
| Medium placement | Count 2; cluster size 8; Y -64 to -4 |
| Large placement | 1 in 9 chance; cluster size 12 |
| Buried placement | Count 4; cluster size 4 |
| Air exposure | 50% discard for small, medium and buried; 70% for large |
Usage
The block occupies a standard full volume and is shown with an isometric preview.
Diamond ore has no crafting recipe of its own. Its practical use is as a renewable-through-world-generation source of diamonds and as a decorative ore block. Silk Touch lets builders move the ordinary or deepslate version, while the diamond item can be compressed into a storage block or spent on tools, armor and other recipes.

Data values
The block identifier is `minecraft:diamond_ore`; the deep counterpart uses `minecraft:deepslate_diamond_ore` and keeps the same diamond-producing role. Both blocks are in the diamond-ore family, are tagged as pickaxe-mineable, and require the iron-tool tier for drops. The ordinary block uses stone map color and the bass-drum note instrument.
