Breaking

Shears or Silk Touch preserve the leaves. Without either tool, the block can drop birch saplings at a base 5% chance, with Fortune increasing the table to 10%; sticks use a separate 2%–10% Fortune table.

Natural generation

Birch leaves grow on birch trees in birch forests and old-growth birch forests. They form the canopy above the birch-log family.

Usage

The block occupies a standard full volume and is shown with an isometric preview.

Leaves form the decorative canopy of the tree and provide saplings for growing another birch. Their leaf-family tag keeps them compatible with the shared tree navigation.

Composting

Birch leaves are part of the leaf family and can be used as a plant material around a composter.

Behavior

Leaves check their distance from a log or another decay-preventing block. Naturally generated leaves become eligible for random decay when that distance reaches 7; placed leaves are marked persistent and do not decay. A waterlogged leaf keeps a water source in its fluid state, and the block can produce dripping-water or falling-leaf particles during animation ticks.
