Latest Minecraft version 1.20 (Java Edition)

A major Java Edition update, the name of which has not yet been announced, is expected in 2023. It was announced at Minecraft Live 2022, which took place on October 15, 2022. Version 1.20 will feature numerous innovations that will be presented in future snapshots.

Blocks​

Bamboo Block

• A building block crafted from 9 bamboo.
• Like regular logs, it can be placed in three different orientations and also has a stripped variant.
• Can be used to craft 2 bamboo planks.
• One block can smelt 1.5 items in a furnace, however creating bamboo planks is more efficient.

Bamboo Planks

• 2 can be crafted from 1 bamboo block or stripped bamboo block.
• Can be used to craft bamboo stairs or slabs.
• One block can smelt 1.5 items in a furnace.

Bamboo Mosaic

• Crafted from 2 bamboo slabs.
• Can be used to craft stairs or slabs.

Chiseled Bookshelf

• Crafted from 6 planks and 3 slabs of any wood type.
• Can hold up to 6 books, enchanted books, and written books.
• When connected to a comparator, it outputs a signal strength equal to the slot number where a book was last placed.
• New interaction mechanic: Clicking any book on the block places it on the shelf; clicking again retrieves the book.

Hanging Sign

• Can be crafted from 10 different wood types.
• Requires 6 stripped logs and 2 chains to craft.
• Has 3 mounting methods: hangs on a pole next to a block, hangs under a wide block on two chains, or hangs under a narrow block on two chains in a triangular format, such as fences or chains. To mount on a crossing chain on a wide block, the "Shift-Click" function must be used.
• Like regular signs, hanging signs can be dyed with various colors and made to glow using glow ink sacs.
• Holds less text than a standard sign.

Bamboo Raft

• A new type of vehicle used for traveling on water.
• Can be crafted with a chest variant for item storage.

Piglin Head

• Dropped by a piglin when killed by a charged creeper.
• When placed next to a note block, it will emit piglin sounds.
• Can be worn by players as a hat.
• Ears move when receiving a redstone signal or while the mob or player wearing the piglin head is moving.

Items​

Sniffer Egg (unofficial name)

• Can be found in chests in underwater ruins.
• Hatches into a baby sniffer.

Camel Spawn Egg

• Spawn egg used to spawn a camel.

Ancient Plant (unofficial name)

• Can be grown from ancient seeds.

Ancient Seeds (unofficial name)

• Can be dug up from the ground by a sniffer.
• Can grow into a plant.

Mobs​

Camel​

• An animal controllable by the player.
  Mobs such as zombies and husks cannot reach a player riding a camel due to the animal's height.
  Can carry up to two players simultaneously.
• Breeds using cactus to produce a baby camel.
• Has the ability to dash to increase speed or overcome obstacles such as ravines and rivers.

Sniffer

• Won the vote during Minecraft Live 2022.
• An ancient mob that hatches from eggs found in chests in underwater ruins. After hatching, it can find ancient seeds which can be used to breed rare and decorative plants.
