Obtaining

A piston is a redstone component that can be collected with a pickaxe. Its block loot table returns the piston itself when the drop survives an explosion.

Usage

A piston reacts to a neighbouring redstone signal and moves blocks in the direction of its facing. A sticky piston uses the same mechanism but can pull one adjacent block back during retraction.

Behavior

The piston head and moving piston entity handle the short extension animation. Blocks with an immovable push reaction, including obsidian and reinforced deepslate, stop the movement; slime and honey blocks can connect additional blocks to the moving line.
