Llama

Mobs

Llama — mob.

Natural spawning

Llamas spawn in windswept hills, windswept gravelly hills, and savanna plateau terrain. They arrive in small groups and share a warm, dry-world role with the other passive farm animals in those biomes.

Drops

An adult llama can drop leather when it dies. Looting can increase the amount, while a carpet or chest is not treated as a normal mob drop.

EquipmentCarpet, chest, and inventory contents are returned separately

Taming and breeding

Repeatedly riding a llama increases its temper until it accepts a player. Wheat heals and calms it, while a hay block also heals more, grows a baby faster, and starts breeding for a tamed adult. A foal inherits one parent's coat and a strength based on both parents.

Data: Taming and breeding
WheatHeals 2, adds 3 temper, grows 10 ticks
Hay blockHeals 10, adds 6 temper, grows 90 ticks
Offspring coatOne parent's variant
Offspring strength1–5, based on the stronger parent

Carrying and leading

Once tamed, a llama accepts a chest for storage and a carpet for decoration. Its strength value determines the number of chest columns, from one to five. A lead can start a caravan, allowing nearby llamas to follow the head of the group.

Data: Carrying and leading
Chest storage3–15 slots

CarpetChanges the decorative harness
CaravanUp to nine followers behind one leader

Sounds

Llamas use separate sounds for ambient calls, anger, hurt, death, eating, footsteps, chest equipment, and spit attacks.

Behavior

The llama is a neutral pack animal that can be tamed. It follows players holding wheat or a hay block, spits at hostile wolves, and can follow another llama in a caravan. It floats in deep water, safely falls six blocks, and takes half normal fall damage beyond that distance. Its four natural coat variants are brown, creamy, gray, and white.

History

Llamas combine the passive-animal and pack-animal systems: they keep a coat variant, temper, strength, chest inventory, carpet equipment, and caravan links as separate entity state. Trader llamas use the same base family with their own owner and visual context.

Trivia

A caravan is a chain of ordinary llamas rather than a single inventory object. A stronger parent can raise the upper range for a baby's strength, while the coat is selected from one of the two parents.
