Turtle Egg
Turtle Egg — block.
Obtaining
Turtle eggs are laid when two turtles are bred with seagrass. The breeding turtle returns to its home beach and places a cluster of one to four eggs on sand.

Breaking
Only a tool with Silk Touch can mine a turtle egg as an item. Without it, the egg breaks without dropping; the same loss occurs when a piston moves it or an entity tramples it. Eggs in a cluster break one at a time.

Usage
The block occupies a standard full volume and is shown with an isometric preview.
Place up to four eggs in one block space to build a cluster. Eggs do not need a supporting block and are not affected by gravity, so lanterns can hang beneath them. Hatched turtles grow into the source of turtle scutes.

Sounds
Turtle eggs use a fragile block sound when placed, cracked, or broken. Hatching uses the turtle family of ambient sounds.

|---|---|
| Cracking | Egg crack |
| Hatching | Baby turtle emergence |
Behavior
Players, mobs, livestock, and armor stands can trample eggs by standing on or falling onto them. Sneaking prevents a player from breaking an egg, but jumping does not. Zombies and their variants actively seek exposed eggs when mob griefing is enabled.
Eggs hatch only on sand, red sand, or suspicious sand. They crack three times, advance only while a player is within 128 horizontal blocks, and progress much faster late at night. A cluster hatches all of its eggs together, with baby turtles facing south.
