Diamond Sword
Diamond Sword — item.
Obtaining
Crafting is the direct way to obtain a diamond sword. A weaponsmith can also offer a diamond sword at a high trading tier; the exact enchantments are part of the villager trade, not the base item definition.
| Primary source | Crafting table |
|---|---|
| Trading source | Weaponsmith villager, high tier |
| Upgrade source | Smithing table with a netherite upgrade template |
Breaking
The sword is a fast tool for cobwebs, bamboo, and several plant-like blocks, but it is not a substitute for a pickaxe or axe. Breaking blocks still consumes durability when the block is treated as a sword-tool target.
| Fast targets | Cobwebs and bamboo |
|---|---|
| Wrong tool | Stone and wood blocks should use their proper tool |
| Durability cost | One point for a successful tool break |

Usage
A diamond sword deals melee damage, belongs to the sword tag, accepts hand-slot enchantments, and can be upgraded to netherite without changing the weapon's role. Its attack cooldown rewards deliberate swings: a fully charged hit is stronger than a rushed one, and a sprinting hit can apply knockback.
| Combat role | Melee weapon |
|---|---|
| Attack damage | 7 points |
| Attack speed | 1.6 attacks per second |
| Sweeping | Full-strength sweep can hit nearby targets |
| Enchantment family | Sword and durability enchantments |
| Upgrade path | Netherite sword |
| Inventory role | Hand item |
Durability and repair
A diamond sword has 1,561 durability points. Two damaged diamond swords can be combined in a crafting grid or on a grindstone, and diamonds can repair it in an anvil; Mending is the renewable repair path once the enchantment is available.
| Durability | 1,561 |
|---|---|
| Anvil material | Diamond |
| Repair alternatives | Combine two swords or use Mending |
Sounds
Sword swings, critical hits, blocked damage, and item breaking use the standard weapon feedback. The sound is selected by the action and target rather than by a separate sword block state.
| Swing | Player attack sound |
|---|---|
| Critical hit | Critical attack feedback |
| Break | Item break sound at zero durability |
Data values
The item uses the stable `minecraft:diamond_sword` identifier and belongs to the swords tag. The smithing transform keeps the diamond sword as its base and changes only the material tier.

Trivia
The sword's listed damage includes the player's base attack damage. This is why the material entry shows 3 bonus damage while the public weapon stat is 7 points.
