Creeper Head

Obtaining

A creeper head drops when a charged creeper kills a creeper. In Java, one mob head is selected from a charged-creeper explosion when several eligible mobs are caught in the blast; the block loot table also preserves a custom name from the block entity.

Usage

The block occupies a standard full volume and is shown with an isometric preview.

The creeper head is a decorative block that can be placed in 16 directions on top or 4 directions on a side. It can be worn as a helmet, equipped by a dispenser, and used to make the creeper shape on a firework star. Wearing it reduces creeper detection range to 50% and a creeper head above a note block plays the creeper sound.

History

Creeper heads were added in 1.4.2 and later became survival-obtainable through charged creepers. Subsequent releases added the disguise range reduction, dispenser equipment, note-block sound and modern block-state placement directions.

Trivia

The head is both a block and wearable equipment: the same model works as decoration, as a creeper disguise and as a sound source for a note block.
