The Void

Biomes

The Void — biome.

Generation

The Void is an empty biome used as a special world area without normal terrain generation. Its biome definition has no carvers, no creature spawners and no ordinary feature list; the only listed feature is the void start platform.

The biome is selected by the Void superflat preset or by a single-biome world. In the superflat preset, a small starting platform is the only initial terrain, leaving air and open sky in every direction. A single-biome world still follows its world-generation rules, so its terrain is not the same as the empty superflat preset. This makes the page useful as a reference for custom-world foundations rather than a place to gather natural resources.

Features

The Void has no ordinary natural features or natural mob spawns; safe travel requires a platform built in advance. A prepared stone or end-stone bridge gives the empty space a clear route and a safe return point. It is also a convenient test area for redstone contraptions because terrain, caves and ambient creatures do not compete for space.

Climate and environment

Phantoms and pillager patrols are the notable natural exceptions in the Void. Other entities can still arrive through portals, villages, spawners or commands, so an empty biome is not the same as a world with every spawning mechanism disabled.

Data values

The biome uses the `minecraft:the_void` identifier and defines a blue sky and water palette for the otherwise empty area.

History

The Void biome was added as a dedicated empty-biome definition and later received the modern `the_void` identifier. Its superflat preset remains the compact start-platform test world.

Trivia

The Void is a biome definition, not the same thing as the empty space below the world. The name describes the generated environment; falling below a platform still sends an entity into the world void and is governed by normal fall and damage rules.
