Elder Guardian

Elder Guardian — mob.

Natural spawning

Elder guardians are tied to ocean monuments in deep ocean water. The monument is their fixed encounter space, so the structure and its surrounding water are part of the page's obtaining context.

Obtaining

The normal route to an elder guardian is an ocean monument expedition. The spawn egg is a separate creative or command-facing item and does not replace the monument encounter in survival play.

Drops

Defeating an elder guardian can yield prismarine materials, fish, and a wet sponge. A player kill also rolls for the Tide armor trim, while the sponge is guaranteed by the local player-kill condition. These drops connect the encounter to monument building blocks and make the sponge the clearest reason to search the structure.

Sounds

Elder guardians use deep aquatic movement and attack sounds. A bell-like cue accompanies the Mining Fatigue warning before the monument debuff is applied.

Behavior

The elder guardian is the largest guardian variant and protects the monument with a ranged underwater attack. Its laser charges for about three seconds, reaches roughly 14 blocks, and disengages when the target leaves range or is shielded by a solid block or shield. It remains a dangerous resident while the player searches rooms, clears water, or harvests prismarine.

Every 60 seconds it applies Mining Fatigue III to survival players within 50 blocks, including players behind walls. The warning uses a ghostly guardian image and a bell-like cue. Its defensive spikes damage attackers at close range, so melee hits are costly even before the beam fires.
