Obtaining

A turtle scute is a growth drop rather than a normal combat drop. A baby turtle leaves one scute when it finishes growing, so turtle breeding and a safe beach nursery provide the renewable supply.

Usage

The scute is the repair material for the turtle-shell armor family. Four scutes bought by a high-level cleric or leatherworker also make a useful emerald trade when a turtle farm produces more than its crafting needs.

Behavior

Scutes are passive materials: they have no use action of their own and are consumed by recipes or repair operations. The reliable production loop is to hatch turtles on a beach, feed adults seagrass, and collect the single growth drop from each baby.
