Trial Key — item.

Obtaining

A trial key is the standard reward from a trial spawner's key table. Trial chambers can also place the item in corridor pots and entrance chests, so a key may be found before every spawner in the structure has been completed. It is the normal key for opening a vault after a trial; the ominous variant is a separate item.

Usage

Use the key on a standard vault to unlock that vault's reward for the player. The key is consumed when the vault opens, and each player can unlock a given vault only once; an ominous vault requires the ominous trial key instead. Renamed or otherwise non-standard key data is not accepted by a normal vault.

Generated loot

The standard trial-chamber key table contains one trial key roll. This keeps the key tied to the completed trial rather than to a crafting recipe.

History

Trial keys first appeared in the experimental 1.21 trial-chamber release. Their vault-opening function was enabled during the later experiment and became available with the public 1.21 release.
