Obtaining
The Mourner pottery sherd is found by brushing suspicious sand in cold ocean ruins. The validated archaeology table places it beside other sherds and a small set of salvage materials, so the ruin and the brush are part of the same discovery path.

Breaking
Breaking a decorated pot returns the pottery sherds and bricks used to build it, so a Mourner sherd can be recovered after placement. It cannot be obtained by mining a raw block directly.

Usage
The sherd is used as one face pattern for a decorated pot. Four decorated-pot ingredient slots accept sherds or bricks independently, allowing the Mourner motif to be combined with three other faces instead of forcing a fixed four-sided set.

Crafting ingredient
The sherd occupies any one of the four decorated-pot pattern positions. The other positions may use any pottery sherd or a brick, so a single Mourner face can be combined with three different motifs.
Generated loot
Cold ocean ruin archaeology uses one weighted roll. Mourner is one of the four sherd entries, alongside salvage such as an iron axe, coal, wheat, a wooden hoe, gold nuggets and emeralds.

Mourner pottery sherds were introduced with archaeology and decorated pots. The early name used “shard” before the item was renamed to “sherd”; its rarity later changed from common to uncommon.

Trivia
The pattern shows a mourning figure on the finished pot. Breaking the pot is intentionally lossless for its four face ingredients, which makes decorated-pot designs safe to rebuild.
