Obtaining

The grass block itself requires Silk Touch. Without that enchantment, its block loot alternative drops dirt instead, so a normal pickaxe cannot preserve the grass top.

Breaking

Grass blocks have hardness 0.6 and the grass sound family. They are random-ticking blocks rather than full redstone components, and the top texture changes when the snowy state is active.

Natural generation

Grass blocks cover the surface of most grassy biomes. A random tick can spread grass to nearby dirt when the target has enough light and no full fluid above it; a solid cover can turn the source block back into dirt.

Usage

The block occupies a standard full volume and is shown with an isometric preview.

Use bone meal on a grass block with open air above it to grow short grass and biome vegetation. The block also acts as a natural surface for animals and can be converted into a dirt path with a shovel.
