Cactus

Blocks

Cactus — block.

Obtaining

A cactus naturally generates in desert and badlands terrain. Natural patches are one to three blocks tall, and cactus can also appear in desert village structures and loot. Breaking the block gives a cactus item.

Breaking

Cactus has no special tool requirement. Its block properties use a 0.4 strength, destroy push reaction and the cactus damage source affects entities that occupy the block.

Natural generation

Cactus can be supported by sand-family blocks and grows without light. It requires open space on its sides; a solid neighbor or lava causes the plant to lose support and break.

Usage

The block occupies a standard full volume and is shown with an isometric preview.

Contact with a cactus deals 1 damage to most entities every tick and can destroy dropped items. Cactus also breaks minecarts that touch it. It can be smelted into green dye and placed in a flower pot as a harmless decorative plant.

Behavior

The plant advances its age from 0 to 15 through random ticks. At age 15 it can grow another cactus block until the column reaches three blocks. At age 8 it can instead grow a cactus flower: the chance is 10% for a short cactus and 25% for a column at least three blocks tall.

History

Cactus has always been a desert plant and damage source. Modern versions added cactus flowers while keeping the compact farming cycle and three-block natural growth limit.
