Tadpole

Mobs

Tadpole — mob.

Spawning

Tadpoles hatch from frogspawn in water and remain aquatic until they grow. The small water-bound stage gives frog breeding a visible transition instead of creating an adult immediately.

Obtaining

Frogspawn produces tadpoles in water after frogs reproduce. A water bucket is the safe way to move one between ponds, farms, and prepared habitats; carrying a tadpole in a bucket also has its own husbandry advancement.

Breeding

Frogs use slime balls during breeding and then create frogspawn over water. The resulting tadpoles inherit the habitat choice from that water surface and later mature into frogs.

Sounds

Tadpoles have no ambient sound. They use separate flop, hurt, death, growth, and bucket-pickup sounds, making the transition from a water-bound juvenile to a frog audibly distinct.

Behavior

A tadpole can be carried in a bucket and grows into a frog. It stays tied to water while it is young, so a dry enclosure needs a water source before the tadpole is released.

History

The tadpole is the juvenile frog stage. It keeps the frog-breeding chain visible: frogspawn hatches in water, the tadpole grows for 24,000 ticks by default, and the server converts it into a frog when that age is reached.
