Shulker Shell

Obtaining

Shulker shells come from shulkers in End cities. The shulker entity loot table rolls one shell with a 50% base chance; Looting raises it by 6.25 percentage points per level, reaching 68.75% at Looting III. A shell supply can become renewable when shulkers duplicate during projectile hits.

The table makes one independent roll for one shell. A shulker that is open and hit by another shulker bullet may teleport and create a new shulker; the duplication check becomes less likely as more shulkers are already nearby, so crowded farms should leave room around the target.

Usage

The shell is a portable-storage ingredient rather than a placeable block. Two shells surround a chest to create a shulker box, which keeps its inventory while being moved and exposes 27 storage slots.

The result is useful precisely because the box can be broken and carried without emptying it. The shell itself has no placement interaction, so it belongs in the item side of the reference rather than in the block catalog.

Data values

The item uses the `minecraft:shulker_shell` identifier and stacks to 64. Its only vanilla crafting role is the shell pair in the shulker-box recipe.

History

Shulker shells were introduced with End-city exploration and later became renewable after shulker duplication was added. Their recipe role has remained the two-shell input for a shulker box.
