Obtaining

A compass is crafted from four iron ingots around one redstone dust. The shaped recipe leaves the centre open except for the redstone, making the item an early navigation tool once iron and a small redstone supply are available.

Usage

A normal compass points toward the world spawn in the Overworld. In dimensions without a stable world-spawn target its needle can spin, while a compass linked to a lodestone points to that block instead. A recovery compass is a separate item for locating a recent death location, so it should not be confused with the ordinary spawn-point pointer.
