Amethyst Shard
Amethyst Shard — item.
Obtaining
Amethyst shards are collected from amethyst clusters inside amethyst geodes. A cluster must reach the crystal-bearing stage before it can drop shards; buds are growth stages rather than a normal shard source.
Mining
Mining a mature amethyst cluster with a pickaxe drops shards. Silk Touch keeps the cluster itself, while Fortune can increase the number of shards from a normal harvest.
| Normal harvest | Amethyst shards |
|---|---|
| Silk Touch | Amethyst cluster |
| Growth rule | Mature cluster required |
Usage
The shard is a compact crystal ingredient used for tinted glass, amethyst blocks, and the spyglass. It is also accepted by several armor-trim palettes.
Crafting ingredient
Four shards craft one amethyst block. Four shards around one glass block make two tinted glass, while one shard above two copper ingots makes a spyglass.
| Four shards | One amethyst block |
|---|---|
| Four shards and one glass | Two tinted glass |
| One shard and two copper ingots | One spyglass |
Generated loot
Amethyst shards can also appear in validated structure loot, but geode clusters are the dependable renewable source because budding amethyst continues growing new crystals.
The cluster loot table makes the tool requirement visible: a normal harvest
starts at two shards, a compatible pickaxe starts at four, Fortune can apply a
bonus, and Silk Touch returns the cluster instead.
| Untagged harvest | 2 shards before explosion decay |
|---|---|
| Cluster-harvest tool | 4 shards before Fortune bonus |
| Silk Touch | One amethyst cluster |
Crystal growth
Amethyst buds grow from budding amethyst in four visible stages. Only the final cluster is harvested for shards; mining the budding block itself does not preserve it.
| Growth stages | Small, medium, large bud, cluster |
|---|---|
| Growth source | Budding amethyst |
| Harvest result | Amethyst shards |
