Torch
Torch — block.
Obtaining
Torches can also occur as generated light sources in mineshafts, villages, strongholds, igloos, woodland mansions, pillager outposts, ancient cities, and around some bonus chests. Their normal form is a placeable block with a separate wall-mounted variant.

Usage
The block occupies a standard full volume and is shown with an isometric preview.
A torch emits light level 14 and can be placed on the top or side of most solid blocks. It has no collision box; water removes it while flowing lava destroys it without a drop. Its light melts snow nearby and ice at a slightly greater distance. Soul torches trade brightness for a blue flame, while redstone torches provide a weaker redstone-powered light source.

Torches are used to make lanterns and jack o'lanterns. Their wall form is a placement state rather than a separate crafting ingredient.

History
Torches began as the basic permanent light source and later spread through mineshafts, villages, strongholds, igloos, mansions, outposts and ancient cities. The wall form became a separate identifier when block states were flattened; soul, redstone and copper torches now cover alternate colour and signal roles.
