Obtaining

A copper grate is crafted from matching copper blocks and can also be produced in a stonecutter. The four oxidation stages and their waxed variants are separate block states, so the recipe keeps the appearance of the input material.

Breaking

Copper grates require a stone pickaxe or better. Breaking one without a pickaxe does not drop the block, while a valid pickaxe preserves the matching grate variant.

Natural generation

Waxed copper grates of different oxidation stages appear in trial chamber corridors and can form walkways, wall details, floors, or dead ends near a chest. This makes the block useful as a found building material as well as a crafted one.

Usage

The block occupies a standard full volume and is shown with an isometric preview.

Copper grates are transparent decorative blocks that let light through and can be waterlogged. They do not conduct redstone and mobs cannot spawn on their top surface. A grate is useful as a balcony floor, window detail, open ceiling, or ventilated divider.

Stonecutting

A matching copper block in a stonecutter also produces four grates. The same one-to-four conversion applies to the waxed and oxidized copper families.

The copper grate uses the copper sound set.

Behavior

Unwaxed copper grates move through four visual oxidation stages. An axe can scrape a stage back, and lightning can remove oxidation; using a honeycomb stops further oxidation. Adjacent grates with identical oxidation and wax states visually merge when seen through another grate.

Notes

The open lattice was designed as a copper building detail inspired by chain-link fencing. Its transparent surface gives copper builds a lighter alternative to a solid copper block.
